Each year an excursion to a place or institution of interest is arranged. Some 35 pupils from the Emil Weder High School together with a school staff member are invited to join us on a journey of exploration. The Fund provides the transport, entrance fees, food, beverages and other costs.

This year arrangements were made to visit the Harold Porter Botanical Gradens located in Betty's Bay on the south coast. Twenty eight bursary recipients from Grades 9-11 in Emil Weder High School plus staff and committee were welcomed by the head educationalist at the gardens. Pupils were divided into three groups that rotated around three displays where an instructor/guide introduced them to aspects of plant diversity, specialization and adaptive mechanisms which have allowed these specimens to survive for many millions of years. They were also exposed to the concept of the great diversity of plant habitats in Southern Africa and the  importance of conserving them. Thereafter the groups were conducted through various habitats in the gardens. The pupils voted the outing a great success.
